Political groups in the European Parliament
The MEPs sit in political groups (fractions), based on their chosen political affiliation. There are currently eight political groups:
Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats);
Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP;
Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe;
Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance;
European Conservatives and Reformists;
Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left;
Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group;
Europe of Nations and Freedom (new since 2015).
